JVP questions on recently gazetted detention centres

Font size: Decrease font Enlarge font

JVP MP Sunil Handunnetti questioned in Parliament today as to why several military installations have been gazetted as detention centres recently.

He said eight new places of detention have been gazetted including the Army Headquarters, Navy Headquarters in Colombo, the Saliyapura army camp and the Panagoda camp as detention camps.

“When the war against the LTTE is over why are new detention centres being gazetted ? Is it to detain opposition politicians or trade unionists? Mr. Handunetti questioned during the debate on the extension of the emergency.

He added that the emergency is being used to protect government sponsored thugs and not democratic rights.

I will check back in the future and see if you have more articles. Thanks for posting this, I appreciate the information and the effort you put into your site.
